Walt Disney World recently changed the re-opening date for Spaceship Earth from November 13, 2007 to February 18, 2008, delaying the premier of the refurbished classic by a full three months. According to a report by DoingFlorida, the delay can most likely be attributed to new technologies being integrated into the attraction. The report states that along with new lighting effects, costumes, and set decoration, (and an extensive rehab of the ride system itself, one would hope), the ride will feature a new story to blend in the new scenes with pre-existing ones. The on-ride narration is also being reworked, and will be accompanied by a new musical score, composed by Bruce Boughton. In addition, the report claims that the ride will feature a new, interactive finale: "On reaching the top of the 165-foot diameter Spaceship Earth dome, the new, interactive touch screens on the 'time machine' vehicle invite travelers to create their own visions of the future and then to see themselves in that future." It is this portion of the re-imagined ride that is being blamed for the delay.
