Disney faces lawsuit for Burbank pollution

Following a federal judge's refusal to dismiss the case, Walt Disney Co. is facing a lawsuit accusing the company of polluting Burbank and the surrounding area with chromium 6. Disney sought to have the case dismissed, citing a 2006 study which concluded that chromium levels in the area were well below dangerous levels. The suit's plaintiffs, however, claim Walt Disney Co. had been using groundwater for its air-cooling system, added chemical compounds as refrigerant, and then disposed of the contaminated water by pumping it into the street at the intersection of Keystone Street and Parkside Avenue. From here, allege the plaintiffs, the contaminants polluted the aquifer below Polliwog Park where it eventually poured into the Los Angeles River. Read more here.
