Disneyland Maleficent dragon debut delayed

The new Maleficent dragon planned to debut with the overhauled Fantasmic show will not make an appearance this weekend as previously planned due to "technical issues."
Disneyland officials are quick to point out that the "technical issues" mentioned are not those of rumor that have been bouncing around the Internet. No, the 40-foot-tall dragon's head did not snap off during testing.

According to Disney officials, the Maleficent dragon will not make an appearance until "later this summer." This information leads us to believe that the "technical issues" are more dire than trivial.
However, the show will go on. The new Fantasmic show will still debut this Friday, June 12 with the new Flotsam and Jetsam eels designed by master puppeteer Michael Curry. “I wanted a sense of swimming, of serpentine motion and menace,” Curry told L.A. Times. “Since it’s an underwater movie, it made sense to use the water as a stage.”

In addition to the eels – and, eventually, the Maleficent dragon – the show will also feature new high-definition projections on mist screens.

And yet, even the news states that "the new effect is laying crumpled backstage, with repairs estimated in weeks, not days." Maybe the head didn't fall off, but something broke bad.
Very true. It sounds like a question of semantics, coming from Disney officials. Even if the head, specifically, didn't fall off, something went very, very wrong. Either way, we'll hopefully see this thing up by the end of summer.
