According to a new article at Jim Hill Media, the renaming of Disney-MGM Studios to Disney's Hollywood Studios may have been a last-minute change from the previously proposed "Disney-Pixar Studios" name.

According to a guest survey Hill referenced on his site Friday, guests were confused by the Pixar name, expecting all of Walt Disney World's Pixar-related attractions to be housed in the "Pixar park." Since Disney already has Pixar-related attractions in every WDW park, including The Seas with Nemo and Friends in Epcot, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin in the Magic Kingdom, and Finding Nemo: The Musical in Disney's Animal Kingdom, the "Disney-Pixar Studios" name was scrapped.

Indeed, internet registry information reveals that Disney didn't secure the domain names associated with the Disney's Hollywood Studios moniker until Aug 4-6, just a few days before the move became official. Of further interest is the fact that domains consisting of simply "Disney's Hollywood" have also been registered, a move which Hill suggests indicates that the park will drop the "Studios" portion of its name in the future to more closely match the park's description, found on the dedication plaque. It reads:

"The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood — not a place on a map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was — and always will be."
