Hong Kong Disneyland to expand

Talks of expansion have begun at Hong Kong Disneyland. While details are scarce, the Hong Kong government and Disney are deliberating over the addition of three new themed 'lands', reports Variety.
A spokesman for Hong Kong Disney Resorts declined to comment, stating that these were "negotiations between two private shareholders." The amount required to facilitate this expansion is said to be in the area of some HK$5 billion ($645 million).
The talks come at difficult time as the park has not met target attendance numbers since it opened in September of 2005. The Hong Kong government -- 57% majority shareholder of the park -- seems to be wary of investing more into the underperforming park. However, the government is looking to help job-creating, market strengthening projects in face of the looming economic slowdown.
