Locals protest Six Flags Over Texas' liquor plans
More than 60 local constituents showed up a at a town meeting on Thursday to protest Six Flags Over Texas' application to sell alcohol at its parks in Arlington. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commision decided to hold the meeting after receiving more than 600 phone calls following the parks' posting of signs saying they were applying for liquor licenses. "I don't know how alcohol sales can be controlled with that many people at Six Flags," Linda Jaquess of Arlington said during the meeting, one of many citing public safety and underage drinking as concerns regarding the application. According to the Star-Telegram, "the TABC will not formally accept Six Flags' application until the mandatory 60-day waiting period has expired, about Feb. 17. After that, the local office will review the application and the protests it has received before sending the information to Austin, where the commission's legal department will decide whether a public hearing will be held."
