A man was arrested today after trying to enter Six Flags Great America with a handgun. Artur Olvera Jr. was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after police apprehended him in the parking lot. Olvera became nervous as he approached the metal detector to go into the park and jumped out of line and headed back to the parking lot.

A police officer working nearby responded to the suspicious activity, and when he approached the man — who was also accompanied by a woman — the woman said that there was a gun in their vehicle. The police officer searched the vehicle and found a loaded .40-caliber handgun. Arthur was charged with the unlawful use of a firearm, which is a Class 4 felony.
