Sea Lion shot in face soon to live at Six Flags

A sea lion, now named Sgt. Nevis, shot in the face by a Sacramento fisherman last year will soon call Six Flags Discovery Kingdom "home." The fisherman was arrested on charges of alleged animal cruelty in relation to the shooting and is awaiting a court hearing on the matter. Sgt. Nevis, named so by the Yolo County Sheriff's Department deputy who cared for the sea lion the day it was rescued, has been in recovery at the Sausalito Marine Mammal Center since December 5.
"Sgt. Nevis will be transferred to the park in the coming weeks," said Discovery Kingdom spokesperson Nancy Chan, speaking to Mercury News. "One of the reasons is because he cannot be released back to the wild because of his injuries. We will be able to provide Sgt. Nevis with a permanent home and lifelong veterinary care."
