Shanghai Disneyland ready to move forward?

Plans for the long-rumored Disney theme park in Shanghai, China are likely to move ahead soon, according to a new report. Citing an unnamed official, the Shanghai Securities Journal said that the park, which is planned for the southern outskirts of Shanghai's Pudong district, has already received the necessary government approvals. "In the past it was all speculation, this time it's for real!" the paper said. Disney, however, is denying the report. "There is no agreement and there is no deal," said Alannah Hall-Smith, Asian spokesperson with the Walt Disney Company. She reiterated that several different initiatives for the region had been discussed, saying, "China is an important market for (Disney)." Disney has repeatedly emphasized that it is currently focusing on Hong Kong Disneyland, which has struggled to meet attendance figures in its first two years of operation.
