Shanghai Disneyland to be smaller than expected

The National Development and Reform Commission let loose information about the recently green-lit Shanghai Disneyland, pegging the park's initial size at around 287 acres--24 acres smaller than China's other Disney park, Hong Kong Disneyland. Prior to the release of this information there had been some concern over Shanghai luring guests away from the underperforming Hong Kong park. It seems that Chinese officials aim to keep both parks on equal footing (at least for now) so as to attract visitors from different areas of mainland China. "The Shanghai theme park will be for visitors from eastern and northern China and the Hong Kong park for international visitors and those from Southeast Asia," said Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents chairman Michael Wu Siu-ying.
