Six Flags New England wins amendment vote

Massachusetts' The Republican reports that local officials in Agawam have approved a new zoning ordinance amendment that allows Six Flags New Egland to construct roller coasters as high as 200-feet tall with a special permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The amendment was passed with a 8-2 vote. To pass, the amendment needed 8 votes because it involves zoning.
"I believe that this will expedite the process of building rides for Six Flags," Mayor Susan R. Dawson said. "It doesn't allow them anything more than the opportunity to build something as high as what's already there."
"I'm ecstatic. I couldn't be more thrilled," Six Flags New England President Larry D. Litton said after Wednesday's vote.
"What it's going to do is allow us to look at more options, (because now) we can do them in a timely fashion," Litton said. "I couldn't be more pleased that the town is both willing and able to work with us (on this)."
