'Toy Story Mania' game coming to Nintendo Wii

Disney Interactive Studios is scheduled to release a new video game for the Nintendo Wii that is based on the "Toy Story Mania!" attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The video game is currently in development and the creation of the game is split between Disney Interactive Studios and Papaya Studio.

The "Toy Story Mania!" video game is being made to fit tightly with the Disney attraction of the same name, but will differ in that it offers an expanded set of features. Says Linda Jo, senior producer, "Like the attraction, the point of the Wii game is to accumulate the most points ... but you don't have to be a gamer to play it. More advanced players can collect stickers and unlock content that can add to their point tallies, but younger kids can have just as much fun playing in their mode."

The game is being marketed as a family game so that family members of all ages can sit and play, regardless of how proficient mom or dad may be at playing video games.

"Our biggest goal was to make sure that all the controls and all the games make for really quality interactive gameplay for the whole family," said Linda. "The park attraction is a shooting gallery for the most part, but for the Wii game, we're expanding on the party game and carnival experience."

"[The video game] pays homage to the attraction, but varies the experience, adding carnival games, introductions by Woody, Hamm, Rex and the gang and even some 3D elements to make this an amazing first-ever Nintendo Wii game based on a park attraction," says Linda.

The "Toy Story Mania!" video game is scheduled for a Fall 2009 release.
