Disney is hiring for 800 positions at it's Aulani resort and spa in Ko Olina, a town on the Oahu island in Hawaii. Expected to open August 29th a total of 1,200 people are eventually expected to be hired.

This is good news for the people living in the area as state Senator Maile Shimabukuro remarks, "We need more jobs out this way so that people don't have to drive all the way to town." The region Shimabukuro represents, the Waianae Coast, is a poverty stricken community that is isolated from Honolulu where the majority of jobs can be found. Disney is working with employment assistance programs in Waianae and nearby Kapolei to try and help give people jobs.

The Aulani resort and spa is designed to incorporate the native Hawaiian culture so hopefully hiring locals will help add to that atmosphere. No matter how you look at it that many new jobs is always a good thing.
