Six Flags Magic Mountain will be adding a series of special effects tunnels to its X2 coaster during its current overhaul. The ride, which will hopefully reopen in time for the Memorial Day weekend holiday, is also receiving new, lighter, more aerodynamic trains, and a new paint scheme as part of the $10 million upgrade project. According to the LA Times, the rides tunnels are still in the conceptual design stage, but are expected to be placed along two of the four straightaway sections of the ride's 3,600-foot-long track. The tunnels will be constructed of a breathable canvas tarp designed to withstand sun, rain, and wind, and will feature lights, sound, and fog, as well as lighted beacon tips, similar to those found on the Denver International Airport terminal.
